Young House Love and Bower Power issued a Pinterest Challenge, so I decided to get off the computer and DIY something I'd pinned. With Fall upon us, I scoured through my Pinterest Fall Board (creatively named, I must say) and settled on this pretty pinecone wreath, made by V and Co. Vanessa's is lovely, but I decided to give mine a slightly different twist, by using cinnamon scented pinecones!
I thought of using pipe insulation as the wreath form, but since my Halloween Yarn Wreath didn't exactly hold it's shape, I decided against it. The hollow foam is probably too flimsy for the weight of 1087 pinecones, too.
Believe it or not, I had this grapevine-style form in my stash. It used to be a ticky-tacky Christmas wreath from a clearance bin, but I saw through her bad outfit and got it for the body underneath.
Since I don't have an abundance of pine trees nearby, I picked up two bags of cinnamon-scented mini-pinecones from Michaels. They have a curved shape, so I just glue-gunned (yes, that's a verb) them one at a time to the form, piecing them together like a puzzle.

After the top was filled in, I glued some of the smallest pinecones to the inner and outer edge. The wreath form does show through in some spots, so I prefer the grapevine base better than painted styrofoam. It just seems more natural.
She's actually hanging on the Living Room secretary by the front door, where the cinnamon smell is a nice welcome.
The wreath weighs a few pounds, so a good sturdy ribbon is necessary to hang it.
Thanks Sherry and Katie for the Pinterest Challenge...I'm thrilled to have a real-life Pinecone Wreath instead of a virtual one!
Feel free to follow my Pinterest boards if you're interested in more mindless pinning ideas! But kiss the rest of your day good-bye...and don't say you weren't warned!

Love it! I made my mom throw out her really old & ugly Christmas wreaths this year, so I promised I would make her a new one. This looks perfect! And I bet the cinnamon scent is delish :) xo
ReplyDeleteNice idea to use scented pinecones! I'll bet it smells amazing! I like the idea of hanging on a piece of furniture too. I know what you mean about Pinterest- I have now started timing myself ;)
ReplyDeleteLove the wreath! It looks beautiful hanging from the secretary, but I also love it against the armoire (which is painted our favorite color)!
ReplyDeleteooh i love it! and i think i have a bag or two of those pinecones i bought a couple years ago and haven't used yet!
ReplyDeletelove this! I wish I had a scratch and sniff screen so I could smell it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean by rarely executing projects you've seen... I've got about 86 projects waiting in a 'To-Do' Folder in my inbox, pathetic! This turned out beautifully, thanks for adding #87 to my bunch :)
ReplyDeleteLove this natural wreath! I've been wondering what I could do with these delicious pine cones, this is the perfect solution and just beautiful for the holidays!

ReplyDeleteI love it!!! I'm going to make some Christmas ornaments made of pinecones.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! and I love the green ribbon! Did you get the ribbon at Michael's also?
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty and tasteful. I am thinking about my front door wreath I want to make already. I'm thinking of going with a blue and silver look...of course with some sparkle. Come on over and link it up to my Pinterest Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteI just walked by some scented pine cones this morning, and they smelled so delicious. Maybe I'll have to try this wreath!
ReplyDeleteThe pinecone wreath looks GREAT!!! We do have an abundance of pinecones right outside our door...I have no excuse not to do this! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! I bet it would look gorgeous with Christmas ribbon as well and then you could use it for the entire season! Was it very time consuming? Okay this may be a stupid question, but what kind of glue gun do you have? There are so many choices, and add in all the options on glue sticks alone, hot, extra hot, what-tha-what? I have a cheapy glue gun that sucks bad so I'm thinking a new one is a must for this project. Thank you Cassie!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautifully! However, I think the cinnamon would get on my nerves after a week......
ReplyDeletePerfect for Thanksgiving AND Christmas. It looks (and I bet smells) divine!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the "Stop Pinning Start Doing"... how true!!

ReplyDeleteLovely idea and I bet your house smells amazing. I like Carmel's idea of giving yourself a time limit on Pinterest. It's so easy to get carried away. Love the ribbon too!
